We moved to Boca Raton, Florida from Missouri for Tyler to attend Fitness Institute International.  Fitness Institute is a vocational school headed by Exercise Science Doctorate Anthony Abbott that is designed to take a year and a half.  Dr. Abbott is an impassioned Christian man who decided to create his own vocational school after becoming disappointed with the personal training field in general.  Although his classes are small, Dr. Abbott has produced the two highest scores ever achieved on the most prestigious international personal training certifications.  In addition, Dr. Abbott’s graduates boast a 100% pass-rate on the most difficult personal training certification that is designed for Exercise Science majors although the certification itself only has a 55% pass-rate.

Lisa initially thought that she would teach while Tyler took classes since she has a Mathematics Education degree, but after we attended a couple Fitness Institute classes together, she decided to accompany Tyler in his studies.  We went on to become the first ever co-valedictorians of Fitness Institute International, and we both placed in the top 1% of all test-takers on the most rigorous international certification.  In addition, Lisa likely scored the third highest score ever achieved.

Now that we’ve both earned our CPTS and NSCA-CPT certifications, we’ve created our own company in order to promote health and fitness education.  Our services/products include personal training, tutoring for the NSCA-CPT, books, and articles.  We are now located in Kansas City, Missouri and would love to help you on your fitness adventure.

Why “Flow”?

“Flow” comes from psychology professor Csíkszentmihályi.

According to Csíkszentmihályi’s interview in Wired magazine, “flow” is defined as, “being completely involved in an activity for its own sake.  The ego falls away.  Time flies.  Every action, movement, and thought follows inevitably from the previous one, like playing jazz.  Your whole being is involved, and you’re using your skills to the utmost.”

Essentially, we aim to achieve a level of flow within our own lives where our skills and tasks align to create for us the best use of the finite time we have in this life.  We hope to get to the end and be able to say that we wouldn’t have changed any of it.  That obviously doesn’t mean that we’re delirious and aim to never make mistakes.  We just want to live our lives fully and healthfully.  We hope to learn from our mistakes and become better people because of them.

And we aim to help others be able to achieve that as well.  Life is limiting for those with heart problems, diabetes, cancer, end-stage renal disease, etc.  We believe that these diseases are highly preventable and sometimes even reversible.  We aim to do what we can for the health of our clients in order that they may be able to jump head-first into whatever creates their own flow without their body holding them back.  Rather than allowing the body to be a hindrance, we aim to make it a source of empowerment.  The photographer can now climb the mountain he wants to get his awe-inspiring pictures from.  The grandfather can now play with his grandchildren.  The former Type II diabetic can leave his insulin at home.  Forever.

This is just a taste of the empowerment we hope to arm our clients with and that we aim to educate the public towards.  America’s current state of health is not what is intended for the fullness of humanity.  We all have the potential to have a strong, healthy body.  We want to show you the way.
